UPDATE ON TRANSNET PROPOSED SHIFT ALIGNMENT

The United National Transport Union (UNTU) would like to inform our Transnet members that roadshows on the employers proposed shift alignment will continue across the country until the end of July 2017.

At the end of these roadshows, the UNTU delegation will obtain a mandate from our members to indicate if they accept the proposals or not.

According to Steve Harris, General Secretary of UNTU, most of the members from whom mandates have been obtained thus far, refuse to accept the proposed shift alignment as they do not believe it would be in their best interest or better their current working conditions.

UNTU would like to reassure its members that there will be no changes in their shifts and/or working hours if the majority amongst them don’t agree to it.

Although rival Unions continue to spread false allegations, UNTU would like to reaffirm that no agreement about the proposed shift alignment has been signed at the Transnet Bargaining Council.

Harris says in terms of Section 49 of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act 75 of 1997, Transnet must negotiate and reach an agreement with Labour to amend any conditions of employment of employees that falls under the scope of the Transnet Bargaining Council. This includes working time arrangements or shift alignments.

UNTU will continue to keep our members informed of the latest developments.
