The Executive Council Members of the United National Transport Union had the privilege of personally engaging with UNTU members working in the Port of Richards Bay, at the Transnet engineering and Transnet Freight Rail depots, on Thursday 3 October 2019.
UNTU’s Exco members divided in teams and met up with UNTU full-time trade union representatives, UNTU Branch Leadership and UNTU trade union representatives.
UNTU members brought several burning issues that have not been addressed to the attention of UNTU’s leadership to take it up to the highest levels of Transnet. All over the Port, UNTU’s members were delighted to finally meet some of the well-known names and faces.
Hendrik Fourie, President of UNTU, says this was a humbling experience for each of the Exco members, but also an eye opener as to how much work still needs to be done at the highest levels.
“My promises to UNTU, to each member, are that this Union will never give-up fighting for your job security, the creation of more job opportunities and the improvement of your conditions of employment,” says Hendrik.
