This is to inform all the members of UNTU that notwithstanding the efforts made by UNTU Leadership, Transnet has not presented a Salary increase offer that is aligned with our members’ mandates. Transnet has maintained their 1.5% across the board increase offer and has tried to sell it on the basis of promises of backpay for the period of 01 April 2022 to 30 September 2023.
These backpay payments would apparently be made in three tranches, (January 2023, February 2023 and March 2023). They have further proposed a R10 000 once off payment if the members accept this salary increase offer, this once off payment would apparently be paid at the end of April 2023 (in the new financial year!!). UNTU MEMBERS WILL BE EMBARKING ON PROTECTED STRIKE / PROTECTED INDUSTRIAL ACTION AS FROM THURSDAY, 06 OCTOBER 2022 AT 00H01). MEMBERS THAT MUST COMMENCE THEIR SHIFTS ON THURSDAY, 06 OCTOBER AFTER 00H01 ARE REQUESTED TO REFRAIN FROM REPORTING FOR WORK AND THOSE THAT ARE AT WORK ARE REQUESTED TO DOWN TOOLS AS FROM THURSDAY, 06 OCTOBER 2022 AT 00H01.
WE CALL ON ALL UNTU MEMBERS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROTECTED STRIKE / PROTECTED INDUSTRIAL ACTION AS A UNITED FRONT TO ENSURE AN EFFECTIVE STRIKE. ALL EMPLOYEES ARE COVERED IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR UNION STATUS.
The FTUR’s and TUR’s will engage with members to inform them of the locations (where) and the times that the Members will gather during the protected strike / protected industrial action and picketing”
