The United National Transport Union (UNTU) took note that other Trade Unions are trying to mislead our members once again, by alleging on social media platforms that a wage agreement has been signed.
“That is blatant lies. No agreement has been signed at the Transnet Bargaining Council (TBC),” says Wyndham Evans, President of UNTU.
Wage negotiations did not resume yesterday as they were supposed to.
The South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (SATAWU), who together with UNTU represents Organised Labour in the TBC, requested that the wage negotiations be postponed with one more week as they have been unable to obtain mandates from their members on time.
“UNTU is ready to respond to Transnet’s final wage offer with the mandate given to the Union by the majority of its Branches. However, as the majority Union, we do realise that it was easier for UNTU to obtain our mandates, thanks to the fact that we have much more Full-time Trade Union Representatives than SATAWU. UNTU therefore agreed to the postponement. The wage negotiations are now scheduled to resume on 19 March 2018,” says Evans.
