CONFUSION ON WHETHER THERE IS AN AGREEMENT ON TRANSNET SHIFT ALIGNMENT.

CONFUSION ON WHETHER THERE IS AN AGREEMENT ON TRANSNET SHIFT ALIGNMENT.

It is a concern for the United National Transport Union (UNTU) that some of our members seem to have misunderstood our previous communication, regarding the Transnet proposed draft agreement, in the continued negotiations on proposed shift alignment.

The Union wants to make it clear to its members that there is no agreement.

All the items listed in the Transnet draft agreement, are proposals that were made by the various parties at the negotiation table. No party agreed to any clause and/or item. Nor did any party sign any clause and/or item.

The process is continuing and the parties are still far apart. As the employer brought the issue to the table, it is obvious that Transnet would like to see a speedy resolution to the issue at hand, but UNTU remains of the view that no employee can be worse off as a result thereof.

The Union remains committed to keep our members informed as and when there are meaningful developments affecting them.

Issued on behalf of UNTU by Sonja Carstens, Media and Liaison Officer.
