AMENDED PARAGRAPH 4 OF THE TRANSNET COVID-19 DIRECTIVE AND GUIDELINES FOR ALERT LEVEL 4

AMENDED PARAGRAPH 4 OF THE TRANSNET COVID-19 DIRECTIVE AND GUIDELINES FOR ALERT LEVEL 4

AMENDED PARAGRAPH 4 OF THE TRANSNET COVID-19 DIRECTIVE AND GUIDELINES FOR ALERT LEVEL 4

The United National Transport Union (UNTU) have been inundated with enquiries regarding the recent Transnet Directive on Alert Level 4 that stipulates that Transnet employees over 60 should stay at home.

UNTU is aware that numerous employees were told to go home and are now being requested to return to work.

The new “Amended” Directive, that was issued by Transnet on Friday the 2nd  of July 2021, states that if you were in possession of a “fit for duty certificate” before the Alert Level 4 Directive was issued, this certificate is still applicable.

Employees who are over 60 and feel that their situation have changed or deteriorated and are no longer fit for duty, these employees should request to be re-assessed at the Transnet clinic.

Alternatively, employees that are not fit for duty and feel that they should be fit for duty, can also approach the Transnet clinic in order to obtain a fit for duty certificate.

Members, please take note that this directive is non-negotiable as Transnet is acting well within their right to implement such.

Unfortunately, the current Government Directive that was published in the Government Gazette on the 27th of June 2021 does not prohibit employees over 60 to be at work.
