The United National Transport Union (UNTU) continues to weaken the South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (SATAWU) at the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) in Gauteng.
This morning another three SATAWU shop stewards joined UNTU because they want to belong to the strongest union in PRASA with a proud history of always serving the best interests of all its members.
They will now join forces with another three SATAWU shop stewards who jumped ship to UNTU last week.
Zukisa Justice Xhala (41), Vumile Mdziwana (32) and Anthony Khulelani Mhlanga (27) served SATAWU since they started working at PRASA in 2012.
“I want to be part of a winning team to make a difference for workers,” says Xhala.
According to Mdziwana SATAWU is no longer doing what he believes a union should do.
Mhlanga says he feels it is time for change and the chose UNTU because of the union reputation for getting things done. “It is UNTU taking PRASA to the Labour Court on the 19 disputes of non-compliance of a collective agreement whilst SATAWU is quit on the matter affecting the pockets of its members,” he says.
