MISLEADING STATEMENTS ABOUT UNTU’S POSITION ON TRANSMED

The United National Transport Union (UNTU) would like to assure all our members working for the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) that they can still belong to Transmed if they choose so.

It has come to the attention of UNTU President Wyndham Evans that certain PRASA managers are misleading our members, alleging that UNTU signed an agreement at the PRASA Bargaining Forum, to amongst others do away with Transmed as one of the medical aids PRASA employees can choose from. That is not correct.

UNTU signed an agreement at the PRASA Bargaining Forum to appoint new medical aid brokers to add more medical aids to the pool, from which members can choose from, thus giving our members a wider variety. This was done after members complained that the medical aids that were available to them, did not meet their various unique medical needs.

The appointment of new medical aid brokers is PRASA improving the service delivery to our members. UNTU will continue to engage in collective bargaining to improve on and to protect the working conditions of our members.
