DOUBLE DIGIT SALARY DEMAND AWAITS PRASA

DOUBLE DIGIT SALARY DEMAND AWAITS PRASA

Members of the United National Transport Union (UNTU), working for the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), demands a double digit wage increase this year.

“Thanks to PRASA’s non-compliance with the 19 issues in the collective agreement, our members feel that they were “robbed” by their employer over the past three years.

“They are furious regarding PRASA’s critical financial situation, after the state-owned enterprise admitted in Parliament that R14,3 billion was lost due to irregular expenditure and the lack of proper financial management of tax payer’s money,” says Steve Harris, General Secretary of UNTU.

Salary negotiations with PRASA will commence on 15 February and the salary increases are due for 1 April this year.

UNTU has approached the Labour Court in Johannesburg to compel PRASA to adhere to the collective agreement and implement the 19 points in dispute.
