The United National Transport Union (UNTU) and the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) are continuing with heated discussions on the interpretation of the implementation of the 19 issues that started yesterday.
The discussions yesterday with Lindikhaya Zide, Acting Group Chief Executive Officer of PRASA began at 10:00 and adjourned at 19:40. The parties agreed to meet each other again on 30 November at 16:00.
However, the PRASA representatives in the PRASA Bargaining Forum tabled some of the 19 issues at the Forum this morning for deliberation. Discussions will continue over the next two days and a comprehensive circular letter to inform members of the latest developments will be sent out by Friday afternoon at the latest.
PRASA is compelled to implement the 19 issues after UNTU approached the Labour Court to make its collective agreement with PRASA an order of court.
PRASA has continued to drag its feet with the implementation after the court order was obtained. UNTU then filed for a contempt of court order against PRASA, Zide and two of his most senior officers in their personal capacity.
The application will be placed on the Court role for a date to be allocated if this round of talks fails to resolve the issues.
