The United National Transport Union (UNTU) is looking for a Media Liaison & Communication Officer in Gauteng to join its team at Head Office in Houghton Estate, Johannesburg.
The main purpose of this role is to develop and implement effective communication, public relations, and marketing activities to boost awareness and positively mould the opinion about UNTU amongst the public, organisations in which we operate, members and non-members.
This position is instrumental in utilising and updating all media platforms in both the public and internal domain, including but not limited to print media, broadcasting media (Radio & Television) and internet media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Quora, Reddit, Pinterest, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum qualification required is an NQF Level 5 Diploma in Marketing / Journalism / Communication or a similar field.
- NQF 6 qualification in Marketing / Journalism / Communication or a similar field would be advantageous.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Verbal and written proficiency in at least three of the recognized official languages in South Africa would be advantageous.
EXPERIENCE
- At least 4 years’ experience in a similar role with integrated marketing and social media experience.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Social Media
- Responsible and accountable for the social media presence of UNTU and UNTU Palms (Facebook, Twitter, Website, etc.)
- Responsible and accountable for the marketing, promotion, and public relations of UNTU and UNTU Palms on the various social platforms that UNTU has a presence.
- Responsible and accountable for all media publications on the various social media platforms for both UNTU and UNTU Palms.
Other Media
- Drafting, compilation, and distribution of media statements, press releases, etc. for UNTU and UNTU Palms.
- Building relationships with journalists, media houses, newspapers, TV channels, etc.
- Planning, preparation, and organisation of major events such as press briefings, interviews, etc and respond effectively to major developments in the area of public information.
- Drafting, compilation and distribution of quarterly Labour Report and Yearly Calendar.
- Deal with enquiries and questions from media houses and other media platforms and respond accordingly after verifying / obtaining authorisation on response.
- Drafting UNTU Circular Letters as and when required on matters under his / her ambit of accountability and responsibility.
- Coordination of media briefings and interviews.
- Analysis and monitoring media coverage of UNTU / UNTU Palms and related issues and relevant media information from different media sources.
- Analysis of reporting of social media platforms statistics on UNTU and UNTU Palms.
Marketing & Membership
- Planning, preparation and organisation of marketing events and recruitment drives including but not limited to Phambili Drives.
- Planning, preparation, and organisation of marketing events/drives for UNTU Palms including but not limited occupancy rates, promotions and specials.
- Works closely with others to develop effective marketing strategies to boost brand / organisation awareness and positively mould the public opinion of UNTU and UNTU Palms.
- Research and suggest marketing / promotional items for memberships drives and membership recognition and UNTU Palms guests’ loyalty programs.
- Assist in analysis of membership data / industry data and UNTU Palms guests’ data with aim of planning and executing membership drives to grow / expand membership and UNTU occupancy rates
- Engage with Organisers, NFTUR’s, FTUR’s and Secretariat in regard to membership drives and assist in the planning and execution of such marketing and membership drives.
- Interrogate, research, verify and respond to membership enquiries and questions on the various social media platforms and other platforms
- Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of corporate communications policy and protocols.
