UNTU PRESIDENT REACTS TO COVID-19

UNTU PRESIDENT REACTS TO COVID-19

The United National Transport Union (UNTU) takes note with grave concern
the emergency measures implemented by President Cyril Ramaphosa as a
matter of national importance to protect South African’s against and to combat
the coronavirus (COVID-19).
UNTU supports Government in the drastic measures it has taken to combat the
spreading of the virus in our country. We request all our members to co-operate
with all the restrictions and guidelines.
As the President of this Union, I can assure all our members that UNTU will
carefully monitor the compliance with Government’s guidelines by the various
employers of our vast membership.
We appeal to all the employers to adhere to the safety measures with caution and to bear in mind the
impact of what this will have not only on the economy, but on each household.
In the words of President Ramaphosa I would like to echo that never in our democratic history have we
been confronted with such a severe situation.
If any of our members feel that your employer is not addressing concerns in the workplace, please address
the issue with your elected UNTU Trade Union Representatives.
If the situation is not addressed, please report your concern/s to enquiries@untu.co.za or send a
WhatsApp to 082 463 6806 in order for your concerns to be addressed by the UNTU Secretariat. UNTU
will keep a paper trail to ensure that the issue is addressed.
Put your own health first.
Yours faithfully,
Hendrik Fourie
UNTU PRESIDENT
