TRANSNET: SHIFT ALLIGNMENT: REPORT BACK

TRANSNET: SHIFT ALLIGNMENT: REPORT BACK

Our circular letter, REF: UN/SHIFT.001/SH/av dated 2016-10-19 refers.

The workshop resumed today (27 October 2016). UNTU responded clearly in that we are not convinced of Management’s rational of wanting to align the hours of duty and the shifts across all the operating divisions.

Furthermore, we were clear that the current hours of duty of the various operational divisions was negotiated in the time when decentralised bargaining took place, which was prior to 2008 and Labour sacrificed certain benefits to obtain the reduction in hours during the negotiations.

Labour requested Management to supply further information on the effect the shift alignment and hours of duty will have on employees.

Management stated that they have noted Labour’s views and they will not respond today, however Management proposed that a facilitator be appointed that will facilitate the negotiations within the Transnet Bargaining Council going forward.

The Parties departed with the understanding that Management will convene a Transnet Bargaining Council meeting after which they will respond to Labour’s concerns and a proposal will be tabled for consideration by Labour.

Members will be kept abreast of any further developments and the date of continuation.

UNTU Greetings,

SA Harris
GENERAL SECRETARY
