Please be advised that the Executive Council at a meeting held on 28 July 2016, gave effect to legal opinion obtained to amend the Death Grant Fund Claims and payment rules, and it is set out as follows:
1. Reasons for the Amendment
a. Due to Legislation changes, that effects procedures for claims, and that UNTU finds itself with far too many in completed claims,
b. Taking the above into consideration UNTU was left with no alternative but to effect the changes to the current rules dealing with the matter of claims and Payment of the Death Grant.
2. The Amended new rule for the Death Grant Fund
a. The only rule that has been amended is Clause 4.2. Clause 4 which now reads as follows:
“4.1 Claims duly completed, which include all supporting documentation and information as required by UNTU from time-to-time, are to be submitted within 12 (twelve) months of the death of a Member/Husband/Wife/Child.
4.2 Claims older than 12 (twelve) months
No claim will under any circumstances be considered if such claim, together with all the supporting documents, as required by UNTU from time-to-time, has NOT been submitted within 12 (twelve) months of the death of a Member/Husband/Wife/Child.”
b. The date that this amendment is effective from is the 1st of August 2016.
For any further inquiries to the above, please do not hesitate to call the author of this letter or Heather van der Walt of the Membership Office.
UNTU Greetings.
