REGULATOR STANDARD: VERBAL SAFETY CRITICAL COMMUNICATION (VSCC)
At a recent Technical Committee meeting that was held on the 20th of September 2022, the Rail Safety Regulator (RSR) requested inputs on a Verbal Safety Critical Communication (VSCC) standard that was prepared by the Working Group.
The purpose of Technical Committee at the Rail Safety Regulator (RSR) is to manage and oversee the development of Regulatory Standards for Railway Safety as outlined in the Procedure for the Development of Regulator Standards.
The objectives of the Technical Committee is:
- To ensure that the railway industry develops Regulatory Safety Standards to promote safe railway operations.
- To promote safe interoperability between the South African Railway Services and the Southern African Developing Countries (SADC) railway services.
- To ensure appropriate benchmarking with the international railways with regards to Regulatory Safety Standards
- To allow growth and development in the South African railway industry.
- To exercise its responsibility, as far as possible, and promote representation amongst its membership and the membership of any Working Group or committee established by the Technical Committee.
With that background the Verbal Safety Critical Communication (VSCC) standard has been developed and is being circulated for comments by the Technical Committee.
