CCMA HAS HAD ENOUGH WITH WANNABE UNIONS ORGANISATIONAL RIGHTS ATTEMPTS

The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) decided to refer all future wannabe Transnet Union disputes over organisational rights to its national office.

This decision comes after several of the CCMA’s regional offices have already made rulings against the wannabes: NUMSA, NTM, RETUSA & DETAWU.

Despite the rulings on organisational rights remaining the same, these unions insist on approaching the CCMA again and again with every single new member they recruit.

In most of the awards the CCMA found that the wannabe unions do not represent a substantial number of employees to grant them recognition.

“UNTU is the majority Union in Transnet, PRASA and BOMBELA. If you want to run with the big dogs, you’ve got to learn to pee in the tall grass. Don’t waste your time with the wannabes, but join the strongest Union in the industry,” says Steve Harris, General Secretary of UNTU.
