Job Description: UNTU Organiser
Area: KwaZulu-Natal (based in Durban)
The United National Transport Union (UNTU) is looking for an organiser in KwaZulu-Natal, to join its team of organisers across the country. The main role of an organiser is to recruit new members and assist the majority Union, in Transnet, Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) and Bombela, in serving its vast membership.
An Organiser must have:
- Extensive knowledge of the Transport Industry and the importance of Trade Unions as organised labour;
- Serve as an ambassador for UNTU;
- Excellent Communication Skills in English and Zulu to sell UNTU as the Union of choice;
- Knowledge of the demographic area where the recruiting should be done;
- A Matric Certificate;
- A Code 8 Drivers Licence;
- Honest, reliable, responsible and trustworthy;
- Own vehicle will be an added advantage.
Duties of an organiser:
- Recruit all non-members and members of other Unions to join UNTU;
- Recruit no less than 30 new members per month;
- Represent members in grievances, disciplinary hearings, conciliations and arbitrations where needs be. Provide guidance and assistance to Trade Union Representatives in representing members;
- Provide advice to members on working conditions, procedure, agreements and policies;
- Provide monthly reports to the Media, Liaison and Communication Officer indicating enquiries dealt with and recruitment statistics;
- Work hand in hand with UNTU’s Head Office to identify new recruitment areas and to come up with recruitment incentives;
- Have enough knowledge of the structure of the Union to direct complaints or enquiries from members and Trade Union Representatives to the correct Union channels;
Explain the variety of benefits UNTU members enjoy as part of their monthly contributions;
- Provide story ideas for the Unions quarterly newspaper, Labour Report, and its various social media pages;
- Enhance the Unions Corporate Image;
- Communicate daily movements to the Media, Liaison and Communication Officer.
In return UNTU provides:
