The United National Transport Union (UNTU) is proud to announce that due to the continuous dedication and hard work of our Trade Union Representatives (TUR’s) at Bombela, the operator of the Gautrain, there is no longer a threat of a minority Union trying to get a foot in the door as they have given up hope.
UNTU represents more than 60% of the employees working at the state of the art railway operator, which is considered to be a leader of its class, in the African continent.
The Union represents 50% of all employees in Transnet and 47.9% of all employees in the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa). The above figures prove that if you want the best, you should join the Union known for its decades of expertise in the Transport Industry.
Pieter Greyling, Deputy General Secretary, says the proof of the success of any Union lies in its ability to fight the issues that affect workers directly: the money in their pockets and their conditions of service.
Because Bombela’s management is not adhering to collective agreements, UNTU has referred three important disputes to the Labour Court on behalf of its members.
First up is the equal work, equal pay court case where the company is once again proposing that UNTU make amendments to its statement of case. These objections will be argued before a Judge in the Labour Court to make a ruling on 12 May 2017.
Issued on behalf of UNTU by Sonja Carstens, Media and Liaison Officer. For UNTU Press Releases e-mail sonja@untu.co.za or phone 082 463 6806.
