UNTU PRESIDENT THANK EMPLOYEES OF UNTU PALMS

“I am humbled and grateful for all the efforts and hard work of all the employees at UNTU Palms who continue to ensure that our seashore family holiday resort remains in a top-notch condition. It is always just a pleasure and a privilege to visit UNTU Palms.”

These are the words of Hendrik Fourie, President of the United National Transport Union (UNTU), after the visit at UNTU Palms, the Union’s holiday resort on the Hibiscus Coast a 140 km south of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, this week.

Fourie wanted to personally check up on the progress that has been made with the multimillion-rand renovations of the resort fondly known as the Jewel of the South Coast.

UNTU Palms was severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic like the rest of the hospitality industry, but the Executive Council of the Union decided to utilize the time and invest in making the resort more attractive and ensure that visitors get even more value for their money.

“It has always been my dream to increase the occupancy of UNTU Palms during the quiet times of the year. With all our efforts and marketing as well as the facelift we gave to our spacious caravan park, chalets, and cabanas we finally see this happening.”

“Five (5) years ago, only 5% of UNTU members utilized the resort, an added benefit where they enjoy discounted rates as part of the monthly membership fee. Today I can proudly say that this figure has increased to almost 50%. That is a tremendous achievement which I am extremely excited about.”

“The resort is also providing discounted rates to the members of three (3) other trade unions, the Health & Other Services Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (HOSPERSA), South African Typographical Union (SATU), and the South African Parastatal and Tertiary Institutions Union (SAPTU), and the resort is also open to private guests,” says Fourie.

UNTU Palms invested in a new DSTV package that gives visitors a wider variety of channels to choose from when visiting. All of this was done without increasing the rates of the resort for 2021.

“UNTU understands families are struggling to make ends meet, let alone find the money in their budgets for a well-deserved holiday.

At UNTU Palms, we strive to provide families with the best of both: a safe holiday destination where you can relax and enjoy the variety of facilities that we offer. Besides the beach, there is a tidal pool ideally suited for small children and the resort also has ample playground space for children to play, a volleyball court, a swimming pool, a putt-putt course, and a games room,” says Fourie.

Do not forget to bring along your surfboards, diving equipment, and fishing rods. UNTU Palms hosts one of the best surfing- and rock fishing spots on the South Coast. The South Coast has plenty of activities to offer holidaymakers, from the Wild Coast Sun Wild Waves Water Park, the Riverbend Crocodile Farm, the Pure Venom Snake, and Reptile Farm, Lake Eland Game Reserve, the Wild 5 Adventures in Oribi Gorge, and the Port Edward lighthouse to Dolphin and whale watching. You will never be bored.

Fourie thanked the friendly staff at #UNTUPalms for doing everything within their means to help guests make the most beautiful lasting holiday memories.

UNTU Palms is blessed to have ample open space and can comply with protocol to combat the spreading of the Covid-19 pandemic.
