RELOCATION OF THE TNPA HEAD OFFICE TO PORT OF NGQURA
Our circular letter REF:UN.CL.NBC.TNPA.003/TD/av dated 18 December 2020 wherein Labour requested Management to start the process afresh and include Labour on the work streams has reference.
Subsequently, Labour and Management held a virtual meeting via Microsoft Teams on 21 January 2021.
After Management presented the working document that will be utilized for the project and Management then expected Labour to reflect on it, Labour then requested a joint caucus before they can participate in the process.
Labour’s caucus then resolved that it will be imperative to have a meaningful consultation in that Management share the document with Labour, which will allow Labour to engage with the affected employees for their consideration/input upon perusing the working document.
Labour then proposed a two (2) week time frame to engage with the affected employees, which will be sufficient time to engage with the employees from both offices at Parktown in Johannesburg and at Kingsmead in Durban.
Management after their caucus agreed to Labour’s proposal and further agreed to reconvene virtually on 5 February 2021. In addition, Management committed that they would assist Labour with the release requests of the affected employees to enable them to attend the planned meetings, which will ensure a smooth sailing.
Labour will utilize the upcoming two (2) weeks to meet with the employees from both offices at Parktown in Johannesburg and at Kingsmead in Durban to afford them ample opportunity to make their submissions/presentations to Labour. Labour will then arrange to caucus during the week of the 5th of February 2021 to consolidate all presentations for purpose of consultation.
This is done in the spirit of affording all affected employees the right to voice their inputs, which will assist us as the Representatives of Organized Labour during the consultation process.
We as the United National Transport Union (UNTU) wish to reiterate our support to all the affected employees, hence from day one when this burning matter was brought to this Union’s attention, we did not fold our arms, but went at length to engage Group (Khaya Ngema) with a letter from General Secretary Steve Harris. – see letters Annexures A and B as outlined in our previous circular letter. We take note of the frustration of employees and the sensitivity of this entire process.
However, UNTU will leave no stone unturned by using everything at our disposal to ensure that justice and fairness prevail during this entire process.
