The United National Transport Union (UNTU) is proud to announce that one of the Union’s Executive Council Members, Clayten du Plessis, has been chosen to serve on the Board of the Uitenhage Provincial Hospital in the Eastern Cape.
Hendrik Fourie, President of UNTU, says that it is a tremendous honour for Du Plessis to have been chosen as one of the hospital’s 18 Board Members.
“To date Du Plessis had done some ground breaking work as a Trade Unionist, even more so during the Covid-19 pandemic where he served on the Transnet Engineering advisory committee that had to guide the state-owned enterprise in adhering to Government’s lockdown regulations, while ensuring that the safety of UNTU members, the majority of employees at Transnet, always comes first.”
Du Plessis will be able to provide valuable inputs and assist with ensuring that the Hospital’s management and staff can focus on their core function: saving lives and taking care of patients.
According to Du Plessis any matters relating to health and safety of workers has always been close to his heart coming from a Transnet Engineering environment.
“I am looking forward to this new challenge and to serve the community of Uitenhage to the best of my ability,” he says.
