UPDATE: TRANSNET FORCED LEAVE

The Joint Task Team, consisting of members of the United National Transport Union (UNTU) and Transnet, had to adjourn its meeting today to 29 November 2017 after Transnet management was not mandated to finalise the issue.

The task team met this morning for Transnet to indicate what mandate they had on how the leave of the affected employees in the 2015/2016 issue would be allocated.

Steve Harris, General Secretary of UNTU who represents the Union on the Task Team, says Transnet management was also not yet able to verify some of the figures, which they had to.

The Joint Task Team was established after Judge Connie Prinsloo ruled in the Labour Court in Johannesburg last year that Transnet breached the terms of a Collective Agreement when it unilaterally forced employees to take leave.

Harris says he still believes the issue can be finalised by the task team before the end of this month.
