NEW DATE FOR PRASA 19 DISPUTES TALKS

The United National Transport Union (UNTU) wants to inform our members at the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) that the scheduled talks with PRASA about the implementation of the 19 issues did not take place and was postposed to 13 November due to the appointment of a new board for PRASA.

Lindikhaya Zide, Acting Group Chief Executive of PRASA informed UNTU that the newly appointed board wanted to meet with him on the same day as our scheduled meeting.

“As a responsible Union who realises that our members are fed-up with the delay in the finalisation of the 19 disputes and would like to see this resolved once and for all. We believe it was in the best interest of our members, most employees at PRASA, to allow Zide to get a mandate on the implementation of the 19 issues from the newly appointed board,” says Steve Harris, General Secretary of UNTU.

The issues will now be discussed on 13 November between the parties.

This discussion is an attempt to get finalisation on the implementation of the 19 issues. The Labour Court earlier made the 19 issues an order of court after PRASA neglected to implement the collective agreement the passenger rail agency signed with UNTU.

Harris says the discussion come amidst UNTU’s application in the Labour Court in Johannesburg for a Contempt of Court order to be issued against PRASA, Zide and two other senior officials in their personal capacity for failing to implement the initial order.

UNTU will keep our members up to date with developments.
