UNTU CONDEMNS SHOCKING ATTACK ON GUARD

The United National Transport Union (UNTU) is shocked by the horrific attack on a security guard at Transnet Engineering in Sentrarand yesterday.  UNTU denounces incidents like this in the strongest possible terms.

It is alleged that a manager of Transnet assaulted the guard before running over him with his car.

Eddie de Klerk, Deputy General Secretary of UNTU, says the Union is relieved to have learnt that the guard was not seriously injured and was discharged from hospital last night.

“UNTU is grateful that Transnet immediately took action and suspended the manager pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.”

According to De Klerk charges were laid against the manager at the South African Police Service.  “The law must take its course. UNTU wishes the guard a speedy recovery from this traumatic ordeal.”

UNTU Greetings.
