“Thanks to the management of UNTU, you are doing a great job.”
These are the words of DJ (Daantjie) Diedericks, Section Manager at Metrorail in Germiston, who is celebrating his 40th year in service. This father of two started his career in 1977 as a guard at the Noupoort depot.
When the depot closed in 1992 he was transferred to Germiston where he began working as a guard on the suburban trains until 2008.
Meanwhile, he attended training as a train driver and was appointed as one in June 2009. In 2013 he was appointed as the section manager for the train drivers and the metro guards.
“I just want to thank my family and colleagues for supporting me for so many years. The most important thing to me is to thank God. He was with me and my family throughout the years,” he says.
