The United National Transport Union (UNTU) and Transnet today signed a wage agreement at the Transnet Bargaining Council for a 5% wage increase backdated to 1 April 2021 for Transnet employees.
The signing of this agreement brings stability to the state-owned enterprise after it faced a prolonged national strike from Organised Labour after Branches rejected the previous final wage offer.
Steve Harris, General Secretary of UNTU, says the overwhelming majority of UNTU Branches voted in favour of the revised final offer Portia Derby, Chief Executive Officer, of Transnet presented to try and avert a strike.
UNTU Branches mandated UNTU President Hendrik Fourie and Harris to sign on their behalf.
The summary of the final wage settlement for the 2021/2022 financial year is:
no later than thirty (30) days after signing of this agreement.
